Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has partnered with Alpine World Cup Åre 2025 to promote sustainable air travel for the upcoming event on March 8-9, 2025. SAS will provide Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for 500 athletes and team members traveling to the competition as part of this collaboration.

SAF can reduce life cycle carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional jet fuel, depending on its composition and production process. By integrating SAF into the flights of event participants, SAS aims to significantly lower the carbon footprint associated with air travel to the competition.

Erik Westman, Chief Revenue Officer at SAS, expressed pride in supporting the Alpine World Cup Åre and reducing air travel’s climate impact through this collaboration. He emphasized that SAF is a key element in SAS’s strategy to drive aviation toward a more sustainable future. He hopes to inspire others in the sports and events industry to make responsible choices.

Olle Danielsson, CEO of Alpine World Cup Åre, acknowledged the integral role of air travel in international sports and emphasized the event’s commitment to making travel as sustainable as possible. Through the partnership with SAS, they aim to take responsibility and inspire other stakeholders in the sports world to make conscious travel choices.

This initiative underscores the importance of collective action among airlines, policymakers, authorities, corporations, and travelers in transforming the aviation industry toward sustainability. SAS offers passengers the option to include SAF when booking flights, encouraging more sustainable travel choices.

By highlighting the potential of SAF to reduce the climate impact of global travel, SAS and Alpine World Cup Åre aim to set a precedent for environmentally responsible event transportation.
